The scent of bourbon lingered in the air, like vanilla with hints of caramel and butterscotch. The distinct aroma reminded me of visits to my grandparents’ house in the summer – lightning bugs, fireworks and watermelon.
But Luc was as far from comfortable as I could get.
Luc was an old moroi – the term vampires used for themselves. He hadn’t adjusted to the modern era like those at the pharmaceutical company, Chronos, where I worked as an in-house lawyer.
He pointed at me, a slight smile curving his lips. “I can see your thoughts churning in that human mind of yours. Tell me, what is it you’re dying to know?”
